Complex Endorsement
The Complex Endorsement is a transition to expand the possibilities of your Pilot’s Certificate. It allows the pilot to fly a much wider variety of aircrafts.
A “complex airplane” is defined as any airplane equipped with flaps, retractable landing gear, and controllable pitch propeller, in accordance with 14 CFR 61.31(e).
To obtain a Complex Endorsement there is no minimum requirement in terms of ground instruction or flight training times. A classroom session and a training flight with a certified FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) instructor in a high performance airplane, and the instructor will determine the pilot’s proficiency to operate the aircraft.
Once the training is completed, the flight instructor will sign the complex endorsement in the pilot’s logbook.
To act as PIC in a complex airplane: §61.31(e).
